Journey with cancer is a long, stressful, and strenuous one. The treatment procedure itself may be detrimental to the emotional well-being of the patient. This is where Ayurveda, Yoga Unani Siddha & Homeopathy (AYUSH) also referred to as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) provide a broad range of healing philosophies, approaches, and therapies. These therapies are used to prevent illness, reduce stress, prevent, or reduce side effects and symptoms, and control or manage the disease.

Various surveys show that interest in Complementary and alternative medicine is high among cancer patients. For cancer patients undergoing treatment, CAM treatment mainly focuses on holistic treatment; to help in the reduction of symptoms, including pain, depression, fatigue and anxiety and to address patient’s interest to improve the quality of life of cancer patients.

With the advancement of cancer treatment more and more patients become cancer survivors. These patients want to explore CAM techniques or practices that will promote health, prevent diseases, and enhance a sense of wellbeing.

About Dr. Raghavendra Rao

Dr Raghavendra Rao holds a PhD in Yoga and Life sciences from Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana University, Bengaluru, India.

He has several research projects to his credit covering various diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases, and cancer and has done extensive research in use of complementary and alternative medicines and therapies in their treatment.  

He had setup the department for Complementary and Alternative medicines at Health Care Global which is accredited by European Society for Medical Oncology.  He has deep experience in conducting global clinical trials and was heading Triesta Bio-repository at Health Care Global Cancer registry and clinical repository.

He has written several international research publications and book chapters on yoga and its application. He has also won several prestigious awards and recognitions in the fields of Ayurveda and Yoga research.
